Estimating

What would you do? How would you estimate how many beans/nuts are in the jar?

While thinking about how we got our estimates we realized that we use our math practices, but more specifically certain strategies to help us.

Some of the strategies we learned our peers used were:
  • Using visuals- drawing pictures or using things to help us see things more visually
  • Connection/real life situation- relating the problem to something we have experienced before or have a connection to
  • Logical reasoning- making sure the numbers you are using make sense and are not too much or too little
  • Communication- allowing time to speak with peers to confer and listen to opinions

Some of us changed our estimates after hearing different strategies! That is why we have estimated twice.
